Ghouls of the Night

Painting the ghouls in CMON Night of the Living Dead

I have looked forward to painting this game as it gives me an opportunity to develop black and white painting techniques to match the tone of the original movie. In this first article, I will share with you my approach to painting the ghouls.

I will exclusively use the following paints which seems limiting at first but really provide an opportunity to experiment with grey blending, shading and highlighting

Main shading was achieved with GW Nuln Oil
1 – Prime all miniatures with white
2 – Apply a variety of grey tones. Try to make all ghouls of one type to look different, whether with a different skin tone or clothes colors.
Apply patterns to the clothes for even more variety
3 – Use Nuln Oil to shade the entire miniature. Let it dry for 30/45 mn.
5 – Dry brush the clothes and limbs with a lighter shade of grey than the original and use a small brush to highlight the faces with lighter gray tint, especially on eyebrows, cheekbones, lower lips, nose and chin.
