Who is ‘Le Gaming Dude’?
Early Years
I was born far too many years ago to count on the Old Continent, in the country of France (you may have detected my typing accent). Raised on traditional family board games by my parents and on rudimentary and solo-oriented wargames (I was a single child and collected lots of toy soldiers), I was fertile ground for the tabletop hobby.
At age 9, I discovered, begged for, brought back home across the Pond and translated the first edition of Dungeons and Dragons; life was never the same… Paired with an early exposure to historical wargames, courtesy of my exchange program British family, my love of ‘modern gaming’ grew for the next 20 years, until a move to the Americas and the necessity to focus on new careers and growing a family of my own separated me from the hobby. During these 20 years, I delved into classic wargames, plethora of 1980s role playing games, Warhammer Battles, the early 40K and of course Hero Quest!
Hobbyist Reborn
Early 2014, after what amounts to a good 15 years interruption, I rediscovered tabletop gaming by buying and painting ‘Imperial Assault’ from FFG. The experience reminded me how much I loved painting these miniatures and pushing them around the table and sparked the rebirth of my hobbyist soul. In the last 8 years, I have accumulated a large collection of games and miniatures and am reveling in this new golden age of tabletop gaming.
Who is I?
If one decides to ignore the fact that ‘I’ is after all a figment of one’s imagination, sustained by biological conditioning and supported by a massive and constant effort to prop up the ego, the question ‘who am I ?’ retains some value, which to you, dear reader, may constitutes the reason you leave this page immediately or stay a while. Given the vastitude of the Internet, and my propensity to love company, I will thus do my best to answer it so as you decide to hang out with me.
My Mission
Quite simply, my mission in this blog is to share with you what peaks my interest in gaming, what I paint, model, 3D print, what I like in our world and what my pet peeves are (and yes, i may climb the occasional soap box). I am not a professional blogger, writer, gamer, painter; just a French Dude who passionately loves tabletop gaming and want to share this passion with the community.
My Wheelhouse
On the topic of wargames, I am huge fan of skirmish games, which give me the opportunity to taste the many factions flavors without investing time and money into gigantic armies. Whether they are historical (Silver Bayonet, Blood and Plunder, Fistful of Lead, Dead Man’s Hand), fantasy (Frostgrave, Moonstone) or SciFi (Star Grave, Core Space, Marvel Crisis Protocol) I have never met a skirmish wargame I did not like.
I love a few RPGs, among them Call of Cthulhu, Conan, Feng Shui. Mothership and Symbaroum.
And finally, many board games have a regular place on my table, such as Blood Rage, Zombicide, Conan and Root, most of them miniature heavy as they allow me to combine painting and gaming in one neatly wrapped package.
